A Remarkable Afternoon in Torito
On August 18th, CREAR organized an event called Sunday of Games and Ice Cream. The event reached out to children living outside of Samara in El Torito, as well as a group of children who travelled to Costa Rica from California.
Lucy, CREAR’s administrative coordinator, was in charge of planning and hosting the activities. With a passion for active social change, Lucy organizes activities that push true growth between communities of differing social constructs. The afternoon spent in Torito serves as an excellent example of the power of multicultural involvement.
The children yelled “Pulpo! Pulpo! Pulpo!” as they ran around the soccer field of Torito. With large smiles and sparkling eyes, the sound of laughter marked the ambiance of the day. The primary goal of the games was to encourage diverse children to work collectively as a team, presenting them the value of collaboration. An activity called “Tiger, Wall, and Deer” facilitated effective communication and decision making among the groups.
The event had another important focus: to offer a cultural exchange at a young age. Both the children from California and Torito benefitted from this immersion. The communities within Samara have experienced differing levels of immersion with diverse cultures. Older generations are more reserved in terms of cultural diversity. It is essential to promote this relationship and interest at a young age to increase education. The event gave them the opportunity to practice another language and recognize different cultural customs throughout the experience.
In a globalizing world that places value on multicultural involvement, CREAR has been a healthy interchange and the organization is proud to have held multiple events of this nature out in El Torito throughout the years. CREAR and Lucy emphasize the value of allowing children within and the outside community to connect. Their approach to ensuring the youth in Samara and Torito become active members of their holistic community is unmatched to other organizations in the area.
As a student of International Relations in Switzerland, this day really piqued my interest. I am so grateful to Lucy and the CREAR team for the opportunity to share with the program and the community.
Una Tarde de Impacto Positivo
El pasado 18 de Agosto, CREAR organizó un evento llamado Domingo de juegos y helados, una actividad de intercambio para la niñez local de Torito y un grupo de estudiantes de California de los Estados Unidos. Lucy la Coordinadora Administrativa de CREAR estuvo a cargo de la planificación y ejecución de las actividades.
Los niños y las niñas gritaron “Pulpo! Pulpo! Pulpo!” mientras corrían por la plaza de futbol en Torito. Grandes sonrisas, ojos brillantes y el sonido de las risas marcaron el ambiente de esa tarde.
El objetivo principal de los juegos era alentar a las y los participantes de distintos orígenes a trabajar colectivamente en equipo. Lucy quiso mostrarles el valor de la colaboración. Con el grandioso juego llamado “Tigre, muro y venado”, ayudó a poner en practica la comunicación efectiva y la toma de decisiones entre los grupos.
Otro foco importante del evento fue ofrecer un intercambio cultural. Tanto los chicos y chicas de California como los Torito se beneficiaron personalmente de esta inmersión. No sólo tuvieron la oportunidad de practicar el idioma, sino que también lograron obtener una exposición de primera mano a una cultura única.
Este tipo de eventos muestra los espacios de involucramiento multicultural que propicia Asociación CREAR. Estas posibilidades de interacción transnacional son muy valiosas en nuestro mundo cada vez más globalizado. Como estudiante de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad de Ginebra, este evento organizado por CREAR realmente ha despertado mi interés. Estoy agradecida de haber asistido a estos momentos especiales de inmersión cultural.
Quiero agradecer a Lucy por organizar las actividades para la niñez y por ser una líder de eventos tan motivadores y maravillosos. Esa tarde en la plaza de futbol de Torito fue una tarde de conexión, una tarde que formó nuevas amistades e hizo crecer personalmente a todos los participantes.
